A leading Further Education provider in South Yorkshire is seeking a proactive and skilled Fabrication & Welding Technician to join their Engineering department. This is a hands-on role where you'll work closely with tutors and students, ensuring workshops are safe, well-equipped and fully operational to support high-quality teaching and learning.

\n

This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone with industry experience who enjoys problem-solving, maintaining workshop environments, and supporting practical engineering education.

The Role\n

\n

As a Fabrication & Welding Technician, you will provide essential technical support across engineering workshops, helping to prepare equipment and materials, maintain safe working environments, and support students during practical sessions.

\n

Key duties will include:

\n
    \n
  • Preparing and setting up equipment, tools and materials for practical lessons, demonstrations and assessments.
  • \n
  • Supporting staff and students during workshop activities while maintaining health and safety standards.
  • \n
  • Assisting with the construction and preparation of engineering apparatus and learning materials.
  • \n
  • Managing the issue and return of tools, equipment and consumables.
  • \n
  • Carrying out routine maintenance on workshop machinery and equipment.
  • \n
  • Ensuring workshops remain clean, organised and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • \n
  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering replacement tools, materials and consumables when required.
  • \n
  • Maintaining accurate stock and asset records.
  • \n
  • Supporting the security of workshops, equipment and storage areas.
  • \n
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across Engineering and other curriculum areas.
  • \n
  • Attending team meetings and contributing to continuous improvements within the department.
  • \n
  • Supporting wider college activities and projects as required.

The Person\n

We are looking for a motivated individual who can bring current industry knowledge and a collaborative approach to the role.

\n

You should have:

\n
    \n
  • Proven industry experience within Fabrication and Welding.
  • \n
  • A Level 2 qualification (or above) in Fabrication & Welding or a closely related discipline.
  • \n
  • Good working knowledge of workshop health and safety practices.
  • \n
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • \n
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • \n
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to support students and teaching staff.
  • \n
  • A Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards achieving these).
