Interim Project / Programme Finance Business Partner 12-month fixed-term contract or day rate | c. 0.8–1.0 FTE | Leeds / Garforth / A1 corridor (hybrid, ~2 days a week) with occasional site visits c. 2 hours away (~twice a month) I'm supporting one of my long standing contacts who has recently been promoted who works for a highly regarded national not for profit organisation on a significant, donor-funded capital programme. This is a major construction and development project financed through donor income, but with regular interactions with government stakeholders. This is a genuinely interesting build with real complexity behind it, and they need a safe pair of hands to business partner the finance side from now through delivery. This is a standalone role, no direct reports to manage, but plenty of people to influence so it will suit someone who's happy rolling their sleeves up and owning the numbers themselves rather than leading a team.
What you'll be doing You'll act as the finance partner to the programme and project teams, giving them clear, commercially grounded financial insight throughout the build. That means owning project and programme reporting, forecasting and budget control, tracking spend against a donor-funded envelope, and making sure the numbers stand up to scrutiny from funders and project boards. You'll work closely with construction and project colleagues, so a working understanding of how capital projects are delivered, RIBA stages included, is essential rather than nice to have. There's also some genuinely knotty technical accounting in the mix, including some unusual lease arrangements, so you'll need to be comfortable getting into the detail and forming a view.
What we're looking for\n
\n - A fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
\n - Solid finance business partnering experience within construction, capital projects or the built environment
\n - Familiarity with RIBA stages and how construction projects are financed and delivered
\n - Confidence with complex contract and project accounting, plus the appetite to tackle unusual lease accounting
\n - Someone self-sufficient and credible who can partner senior stakeholders without a team around them
\n - Available at short-ish notice — ideally able to start within a month
\n
The practical bits\n
\n - Salary / Rate is dependent upon experience, but likely to be somewhere in the region of c£65 - 75K or the equivalent day rate (inside IR35)
\n - 12-month interim engagement, taken either as a fixed-term contract or on a day rate — happy to talk through both
\n - Full-time, but there's flexibility down to around 0.8 FTE for the right person
\n - Hybrid working, with roughly two days a week in the office (Leeds / Garforth / A1 corridor)
\n - Occasional site visits around two hours away, roughly twice a month
