TNS Contractors Ltd is an established M&E contractor delivering projects across the rail, commercial and industrial sectors.

Our work ranges from complete electrical installations and rewires through to infrastructure upgrades, testing, remedial works and specialist systems. A large proportion of our work is within the rail environment, alongside commercial offices, warehouses and industrial premises.

Typical projects include station and office rewires, distribution board and MCCB panel replacements, three-phase and single-phase installations, lighting and emergency lighting, lighting columns, EICRs and remedials, data, CCTV and access control.

Due to our continued workload, we are looking for an experienced Site Electrician to join our team. We are open to both PAYE employees and experienced subcontract electricians and are happy to discuss the most suitable arrangement with the right candidate.

The role will primarily involve travelling to sites across Essex, London and Cambridgeshire, with occasional projects further afield.

You will generally work as part of a team delivering electrical installations from technical drawings and specifications. We are looking for someone capable of taking responsibility for their own work and completing installations to a high standard without constant supervision.

Typical duties include:

• Reading and working from electrical and technical drawings
\n
• Installing metallic containment including conduit, trunking, cable tray, basket and ladder
\n
• Wiring and terminating single and three-phase circuits
\n
• Installing SWA, singles, FP-type cabling and other commercial wiring systems
\n
• Installing/replacing distribution boards and MCCB panels
\n
• Lighting and emergency lighting installations
\n
• Electrical infrastructure and distribution works
\n
• EICR remedial works
\n
• Testing, inspection and certification depending on experience
\n
• Data, CCTV and access control installations where applicable
\n
• Following company and site H&S procedures
\n

The work is varied, ranging from complete station and office rewires to DB replacements, lighting upgrades, EICR remedials and infrastructure works.

Approximately 80% of our work is undertaken during normal daytime hours; however, some evening and night work is required due to the nature of rail and commercial projects.

Night shifts are generally programmed in advance and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, as they suit some electricians more than others. There may occasionally be projects where night working is required, with reasonable notice provided.

Night shifts attract an increased rate of pay.

Subcontractor rate: £250–£300 per day depending on experience, qualifications and capability.

PAYE employment is also available, with salary/rate and employment package agreed based on experience and qualifications.

A company van and fuel card are provided.

There is also the opportunity to undertake price work, either individually or as part of a team, offering additional earning potential for those who prefer this arrangement.

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Installations or recognised equivalent
\n
• ECS Gold Card
\n
• Strong three-phase and single-phase installation experience
\n
• Commercial and/or industrial electrical experience
\n
• Extensive experience installing metallic containment
\n
• Ability to read electrical drawings and technical information
\n
• Competent in circuit wiring and termination
\n
• Able to install and replace distribution boards and MCCB panels without direct supervision
\n
• Good understanding of BS 7671
\n
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
\n
• Good understanding of site health and safety
\n
• High standard of workmanship
\n
• Willingness to travel and work occasional nights when required
\n

We are particularly interested in electricians who can be given a drawing, specification and scope of works and be trusted to progress the installation correctly and professionally.

• City & Guilds or equivalent Testing & Inspection qualification
\n
• Testing and inspection experience, including EICRs and coding
\n
• Familiarity with NICEIC standards and certification
\n
• Previous experience as an NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS)
\n
• Experience completing EICs, EICRs, Minor Works and emergency lighting certification
\n
• Data and structured cabling experience
\n
• Communications rack installation and termination
\n
• Fibre optic cabling
\n
• CCTV installation
\n
• Access control installation, particularly Paxton
\n
• Previous rail or station experience
\n

Testing qualifications are desirable rather than essential. We are equally interested in experienced installation electricians who are technically strong and produce high-quality work.
