About the Role\n
As a Platform Engineer specialising in Virtualisation & VCF Automation, you'll be supporting the OpNET programme by designing, deploying, and automating VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms. Your expertise will centre on enterprise virtualisation, supporting the full lifecycle from initial design through to operational handover in secure, regulated environments.
\nThe contract is scheduled until 31 March 2027, with scope for extension. Working for a reputable client, you'll be part of a team delivering innovative, secure solutions within a structured and professional environment. The role offers a day rate of up to £650 (ex VAT) Inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities\n- \n
- Design, deploy, and manage enterprise virtualisation platforms based on VMware VCF. \n
- Implement core components such as vSphere, NSX, vSAN, and VCF Operations. \n
- Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using tools like Terraform, PowerCLI, and Ansible to facilitate repeatable, automated deployments. \n
- Create API-driven automation for provisioning and platform lifecycle management. \n
- Support platform build, upgrade, patching, and scaling, ensuring continuous improvement and stability. \n
- Integrate virtualisation platforms with network services, DNS, identity, and DevOps pipelines. \n
- Translate architectural designs into automated, deployable solutions, aligned to programme standards and security requirements. \n
- Produce technical documentation including low-level designs, build guides, and runbooks. \n
- Participate in system integration, testing, operational handovers, and change impact assessments. \n
- Support ongoing platform optimisation and security hardening. \n
The ideal candidate will possess:

- Strong experience with VMware virtualisation platforms (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter). \n
- Hands-on experience with VMware Cloud Foundation and SDDC components NSX, vSAN, VCF Operations. \n
- Proficiency in automation tools such as PowerCLI, Terraform, Ansible, or SaltStack. \n
- Experience developing Infrastructure as Code and leveraging APIs for automation. \n
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking, including DNS and load balancing. \n
- Experience integrating platforms with DevOps toolchains and CI/CD pipelines. \n
- Excellent technical documentation skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues. \n
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments, demonstrating a security-first mindset. \n
- \n
- Knowledge of Kubernetes on VCF (VKS) or container platforms. \n
- Understanding of hybrid and multi-cloud environments. \n
- Experience with GitOps practices. \n
- Familiarity with disaster recovery and resilience solutions. \n
- Relevant certifications such as VCP, VCAP, or VMware Cloud Foundation Specialist. \n
