Job Description
Elevation Recruitments Design & Projects division are looking for a Design Engineer to develop mechanical components, mounting systems, brackets and structural assemblies, working closely with engineering and production teams to improve product performance, reliability and ease of manufacture.
\nThis is a hands-on Design Engineer role rather than a desk-based position. You will spend time on the shop floor, identifying issues, developing solutions and seeing your designs through into production.
The Role\nAs Design Engineer, you will:
\n- \n
- Design and develop brackets, mounts, fixings and structural components. \n
- Convert concepts, sketches and 3D models into manufacturable designs. \n
- Design components using sheet metal, laser-cut, fabricated and formed parts. \n
- Improve existing designs to reduce weight, part count, cost and assembly time. \n
- Design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA). \n
- Investigate production issues and develop practical engineering solutions. \n
- Work directly with production and assembly teams to resolve fitment and quality issues. \n
- Develop prototypes and test designs before production. \n
- Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation. \n
- Develop assembly instructions and support production with technical guidance. \n
- Consider tolerances, adjustment, fastening methods and dynamic loading within designs. \n
- Identify opportunities to standardise components, fixings and manufacturing methods. \n
- Support continuous improvement across products and manufacturing processes. \n
We are looking for a practical Design Engineer who enjoys getting involved with both design and manufacturing.
\nYou should have:
\n- \n
- Experience in mechanical design engineering within a manufacturing environment. \n
- Strong 3D CAD experience. \n
- Experience designing brackets, fixings, assemblies, sheet metal or fabricated components. \n
- Good understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes. \n
- Experience working with production or assembly teams. \n
- A hands-on approach to engineering and problem solving. \n
- Understanding of tolerances, fasteners, structural integrity and dynamic loads. \n
- Ability to take a problem from the production floor, develop a solution and implement the design. \n
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills. \n
Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, Creo or similar CAD systems would be beneficial.
\nAutomotive, transport, machinery, special purpose equipment or other high-volume / low-volume manufacturing experience would be relevant.
What's on Offer\n- \n
- Hands-on Design Engineer position with genuine ownership. \n
- Direct involvement with production and manufacturing. \n
- Opportunity to see designs developed from concept through to production. \n
- Variety of mechanical design and engineering projects. \n
- Strong focus on continuous improvement and product development. \n
- Opportunity to make measurable improvements to assembly time, reliability and quality. \n
- Competitive salary and benefits package. \n
