Job Description
Housing Benefit Support Officer Westminster City Council is seeking an experienced Temporary Accommodation Housing Benefit Support Officer to join its Housing Services team.
\nThis is an important role supporting residents living in temporary accommodation by ensuring housing benefit claims, subsidy processes and accommodation-related charges are administered accurately and efficiently. You will work closely with Housing Benefit, Temporary Accommodation, Finance and Homelessness teams to help maximise income, minimise arrears and support residents during challenging periods of their lives.
\nKey Responsibilities Housing Benefit Support Officer
\n\nProcess and monitor Housing Benefit claims relating to temporary accommodation.
\nManage housing benefit subsidy administration and associated records.
\nLiaise with residents, landlords, accommodation providers and internal teams regarding benefit enquiries and payments.
\nInvestigate and resolve discrepancies relating to rent accounts, benefit entitlement and accommodation charges.
\nMaintain accurate records using council systems and databases.
\nSupport income recovery processes and help reduce arrears within temporary accommodation services.
\nPrepare reports, correspondence and case updates as required.
\nEnsure compliance with relevant legislation, council policies and audit requirements.
\nProvide excellent customer service and respond to enquiries within agreed timescales.

\n\nAbout You Housing Benefit Support Officer
\nYou will be a highly organised and detail-focused individual with experience of working within Housing Benefit, Temporary Accommodation, Revenues and Benefits, or a related housing environment.
\nYou will have a strong understanding of housing legislation, welfare benefits and financial processes, along with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
\nThe successful candidate will be capable of managing a busy caseload while maintaining accuracy, professionalism and a customer-focused approach.
\nEssential Requirements Housing Benefit Support Officer
\n\nExperience working within Housing Benefits, Temporary Accommodation, Homelessness Services or Social Housing.
\nKnowledge of Housing Benefit regulations and benefit administration processes.
\nExperience managing complex casework and maintaining accurate records.
\nStrong numerical and analytical skills.
\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.
\nAbility to prioritise competing workloads and meet deadlines.
\nExperience using Microsoft Office applications and case management systems.
\nCommitment to delivering excellent customer service.
\n\nQualifications
\n\nGCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
\nRelevant qualification in Housing, Benefits Administration, Business Administration or a related discipline is desirable.
\nEvidence of continuing professional development is advantageous.
