Unit Specific Job Function

- Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for surgical patients \n
- Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care \n
- Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions \n
Responsibility and Accountability
\n- \n
- Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care \n
- Prioritizes the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition \n
Patient Education and Chart Completion
\n- \n
- Assesses patient's understanding of surgical procedure/instructions \n
- Actively includes the patient and family members in teaching \n
- Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education \n
Duties Specific to PAT RN
\n- \n
- Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner \n
- Evaluates Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health \n
Required Skills & Qualifications
\n- \n
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience – Required \n
- Must have ICU experience (High Acuity SDU) \n
- RN License – Required \n
- BLS – Required \n
- ACLS – Required \n
Education
\n- \n
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing \n
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree – Preferred \n
Physical Requirements
