Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a key healthcare professional responsible for overseeing and directing nursing care within the cath lab and interventional radiology departments. A proactive and enthusiastic approach is essential to contribute to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

Essential duties and performance indicators include:

  • Assessment (20%): Conduct thorough nursing assessments to establish a comprehensive database.
    • A) Complete assessments for new admissions or transfers upon arrival in the PACU.
    • B) Accurately document patient assessments.
    • C) Provide timely ongoing reassessments, noting significant observations.
  • Planning (10%): Develop and coordinate a care plan based on initial assessment data, patient diagnosis, and physician directives.
    • A) Identify patient care needs.
    • B) Create nursing interventions aimed at achieving desired outcomes.
    • C) Initiate personalized care plans.
    • D) Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate daily care plans for assigned patients.
  • Implementation (30%): Deliver and document nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs and care plans.
    • A) Coordinate and document patient care with other disciplines.
    • B) Provide patient education and discharge planning accurately on the PACU flow sheet.
    • C) Review and implement physician orders promptly and accurately.
    • D) Recognize changes in patient conditions and take appropriate nursing actions.
    • E) Follow medication and parenteral therapy administration guidelines.
    • F) Perform blood draws for lab specimens, including cultures.
    • G) Notify anesthesia and surgical physicians of significant patient condition changes.
    • H) Assist physicians with procedures and examinations related to patient care.
  • Evaluation (10%): Document the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust care plans as necessary.
    • A) Conduct ongoing evaluations of care effectiveness based on assessment data and patient responses.
    • B) Assess and document the effectiveness of patient education.
    • C) Modify care plans as needed.
    • D) Evaluate pain management effectiveness and take appropriate actions.
  • Professional Development (10%): Take responsibility for personal professional practice.
    • A) Engage in learning opportunities to enhance professional skills, including:
    • 1. Committee participation
    • 2. Staff meetings
    • 3. Mandatory training and educational programs
    • 4. Self and peer performance evaluations.
    • B) Arrive on time and begin duties promptly.
    • C) Serve as a resource for colleagues, patients, and families.
    • D) Identify issues, gather relevant data, propose solutions, and communicate effectively.
    • E) Supervise care provided by Care Partners.
    • F) Uphold customer service standards in all patient interactions.
  • Safety and Infection Control (5%): Adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
    • A) Follow universal precautions and dispose of hazardous materials properly.
    • B) Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
    • C) Report any risk management concerns.
    • D) Complete all annual mandatory training requirements.
    • E) Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Service Excellence (10%): Deliver high-quality, respectful care to all patients.
    • A) Provide prompt and courteous service.
    • B) Communicate effectively and maintain patient confidentiality.
    • C) Ensure quality care in line with established standards.
    • D) Utilize resources efficiently and recommend improvements.
  • Quality Improvement (5%): Integrate quality assessment into daily responsibilities.
    • A) Assist in developing unit-based performance improvement plans.
    • B) Collect performance improvement data as assigned.
    • C) Participate in discussions regarding performance improvement outcomes.
    • D) Collaborate on action plans and research activities.
  • Age-Appropriate Care: Provide care suitable for various age groups.
    • A) Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development for all patient ages.
    • B) Assess and interpret age-specific data to identify patient needs.
    • C) Involve family members in care decisions.
  • Specialized Care: Deliver specialized care to high-risk patients.
    • A) Manage restraint care and monitor patient responses.
    • B) Assess and manage pain effectively.
    • C) Recognize and report signs of abuse or neglect.

Job Specifications:

Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensing.

Minimum Experience: At least one year of medical-surgical experience is required; critical care or post-anesthesia care experience is preferred.

Required Course: Advanced Life Support (ALS).

Working Conditions:
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Contact with patients in various circumstances.
  • Exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illnesses).
  • Handling emergencies or crisis situations.
  • Subject to irregular hours and multiple competing demands.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged standing or walking.
  • Ability to lift, position, push, and transfer patients.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
