Position Overview: Respiratory Care Practitioner IIThe Respiratory Care Practitioner II plays a vital role in delivering respiratory care through patient evaluation, planning, intervention, education, and assessment. Responsibilities include performing a variety of respiratory care procedures such as administering oxygen and aerosolized medications, providing ventilator support, conducting bronchial hygiene therapy, and offering diagnostic services and education to both patients and staff. The practitioner will monitor patient responses to therapies and suggest modifications based on assessments.
Key Responsibilities- May act as the shift “Charge Therapist,” ensuring adequate staffing for patient care areas, which includes assigning staff, modifying assignments, and managing meal coverage.
- Assist physicians with procedures like bronchoscopy, tracheotomy intubation, and tracheostomy tube changes.
- Perform CPR and airway management techniques in line with AHA ACLS protocols.
- Conduct therapeutic procedures to maintain patient airways, including the use of various airway devices and ensuring proper humidification.
- Select, assemble, and monitor mechanical ventilators, ensuring their proper function and cleanliness.
- May conduct pulmonary function tests (PFT).
- Serve as a mentor to new staff and students.
- Assess patients’ physical conditions through various methods and review existing medical records.
- Administer treatments as per physician orders, explaining therapy goals to patients and adjusting procedures based on their responses.
- Determine the suitability of prescribed therapies and recommend alternatives to physicians.
- Set up and manage different oxygen therapy modes to maintain appropriate oxygen levels.
- Administer IPPB or aerosol therapy, monitoring patient responses and documenting vital signs and therapy outcomes.
- Provide postural drainage and percussion to facilitate bronchial secretion clearance.
- Educate patients and families on various respiratory therapies and equipment.
- Collect sputum samples for culture and sensitivity testing.
- Evaluate laboratory values for blood and urine.
- Perform arterial punctures and analyze arterial blood gases (ABG).
- May conduct EKGs and understand electronic monitoring and basic arrhythmias.
- Maintain all respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
- Respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation situations and participate as needed.

Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred)

Licensing & Certifications:
- Current Respiratory Care License in the relevant state (required)
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential (required)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred)
- BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
- ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross (required)
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AWHONN (preferred)
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred)
- Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred)
- ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) - NBRC (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license (required for Home Care/DME)
- Experience: Minimum of two years as a Respiratory Care Professional (required)
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.

- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in oral and written communication.
- Open to feedback and able to interpret data effectively.
- Accountable and knowledgeable about non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment.
- Familiar with therapeutic procedures including CPAP/BiPap, oxygen therapy, and ventilator management.
- Understanding of EKGs and basic arrhythmias.
- Experience with arterial blood gas testing and airway maneuvers.
- Knowledge of chest suction equipment and chest X-ray interpretation.
- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
- Salary Range: Minimum: $30.99, Maximum: $48.04
