POSITION SUMMARY: The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of behavioral medicine patients, (including biological, social and psychological assessments). The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, and coordinates ongoing management (as applicable). The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.

Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but are not limited to.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER:
\nEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
\n1.
\nGraduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Masters Degree in Nursing.
\n2.
\nNational Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
\n3.
\nLicensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in State of Practice.
\n4.
\nBLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
\nEXPERIENCE:
\n1.
\nAcute care or behavioral medicine experience preferred.
\n2.
\nEligible new graduates will be considered.
\n\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
\nEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

\nBLS certification required. Additional life support certification at the discretion of the department

\nEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

\nBachelors Degree as a Medical/Surgical (as applicable) Physician Assistant required.

\nGraduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program required.
\n3.
\nCertification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.
\n4.
\nMust be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Board of Medicine in State of Practice.
\n5.
\nBLS certification required. Additional advance life support training at the discretion of the department
\nEXPERIENCE:
\n1.
\nAcute care, surgical or behavioral medicine experience preferred, CAQ in Psychiatry preferred
\n2.
\nEligible new graduates will be considered.

\nManages comprehensive and individualized care for behavioral medicine patients and their families in the behavioral medicine hospitalization and/or ambulatory setting.
\n2.
\nCompletes daily rounds; consults and/or emergent/evaluations.
\n3.
\nCompletes integrated assessments.
\n4.
\nWith the collaboration of behavioral medicine faculty or by following established clinical Guidelines and Protocols, orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate.
\n5.
\nPerforms and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
\n6.
\nConsults and communicates with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
\n7.
\nPerforms succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in medical record.
\n8.
\nFacilitates patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge necessary for outpatient follow-up appointments in the clinic (as applicable).
\n9.
\nDevelops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for behavioral medicine patients, which includes teaching, discharge planning and necessary referral to other members of the health care team as necessary.
\n10.
\nDemonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
\n11.
\nIdentifies unstable or complex behavioral medicine patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention in the clinic and/or hospital setting.
\n12.
\nRecognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care.
\n13.
\nEvaluates behavioral medicine patients and serves as a coordinator for follow up procedures and tests in the ambulatory setting (as applicable).
\n14.
\nAssists in the collection of outcome measures (as applicable).
\n15.
\nDemonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation and management of the individual needs of patients/families.

\nDemonstrates the ability to utilize equipment in a safe manner.

\nProvides leadership in the development and implantation of changes in the behavioral medicine practice that positively impact patient outcomes.
