The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region caters to approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Using the nursing process, you will deliver high-quality direct and indirect patient-centered care. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status appropriately, responding swiftly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population. You will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions and collegiality, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job-Specific Competencies1. Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
2. Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and assess individualized care plans for surgical patients based on assessment data.
3. Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use based on patient age and clinical condition, while following safety policies.
4. Provide patient care in a safe environment that enhances positive outcomes, adhering to policies for patient identification and surgical site verification.
5. Document the nursing process and patient responses promptly using the appropriate tools.
6. Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
7. Demonstrate independent practice aligned with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
8. Understand the principles of growth and development throughout the lifespan, providing age-appropriate care and interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
9. Provide a clear and relevant report on the patient's condition for safe transitions of care.
- Prepare the surgical room promptly with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.
- Ensure aseptic technique is maintained throughout the surgical procedure, identifying and communicating any breaches to the surgical team and assisting with corrective measures.
- Communicate effectively with the surgeon regarding the accounting of all sponges, needles, and instruments; report any discrepancies immediately to the surgeon and Team Leader, ensuring all counts are documented accurately.
- Accurately record, handle, label, and process specimens.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the scrub role.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hiring.
EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is essential.
