The primary role of the Chief of Breast Medical Oncology is to oversee the provision of both inpatient and outpatient specialized care for breast cancer patients, ensuring adherence to the standards and regulations established by JCAHO and other governing bodies. This position will work closely with the Chair of Medical Oncology, as well as the Chairman of the Cancer Centers, to align the efforts of community faculty and full-time faculty members.
- Lead and coordinate breast cancer care initiatives.
- Engage in regular assessments of the quality and appropriateness of patient care delivered by division members, utilizing designated medical staff mechanisms for this evaluation.
- Contribute to the Division's budget planning and assist in compiling reports for the Breast Cancer program.
- Help develop programs and services tailored to meet the needs of oncology patients, as deemed medically necessary.
- Define the scope of general oncology practice at the Hospital, ensuring alignment with the Hospital's mission and strategic objectives, while advocating for the Hospital's interests in general oncology services within the University of Pittsburgh Physicians.
- Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of oncology practices at the Hospital and suggest strategies to ensure the economical use of equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals without compromising treatment quality.
- Board Certified in Hematology or Oncology.
- Licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania.
- Primary office practice located at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospitals and the Hillman Cancer Center, utilizing both inpatient and outpatient facilities.
