Make a meaningful impact as a middle school special education teacher supporting students in a BEST (Behavioral and Emotional Supported Teaching) classroom for grades 6–8. This contract opportunity is near Evanston, IL, and offers you the chance to provide individualized instruction and create a nurturing learning environment for students needing behavioral and emotional support. With a small, mostly self-contained classroom of 9–10 students, you’ll have the flexibility and resources to tailor your teaching to meet every learner’s unique needs.

In this role, you’ll work Monday through Friday from 7:50 AM to 3:10 PM at a welcoming middle school. Collaborate with dedicated staff and enjoy the satisfaction of helping students achieve milestones academically, socially, and emotionally.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current Illinois PEL (Professional Educator License) with a Special Education endorsement
  • Previous teaching experience in special education, preferrably with middle school students
  • Strong knowledge of IEP development and progress monitoring
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and maintain structure with students exhibiting emotional or behavioral challenges
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, individualized instruction to support students’ academic, social, and behavioral growth
  • Design and implement interventions tailored to each learner’s needs
  • Develop and monitor IEP goals, tracking student progress
  • Foster a positive, respectful classroom climate
  • Partner with parents, support staff, and related service providers
  • Manage classroom routines to encourage consistent structure and support
