Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a 5th-grade student as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter within a Life Skills classroom. This onsite role is designed for a skilled interpreter seeking to make a genuine impact in an inclusive educational setting. The assignment spans from August 19, 2026, through June 2, 2027, offering the unique experience of working closely in a school environment near York, PA.
Key Qualifications:
- Current EIPA score of 3.5 or higher, as required by the intermediate unit
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and best practices for educational interpreting
- Experience working 1:1 with children, particularly those with life skills or special education needs
- Strong ability to adapt communication strategies to meet individual student needs
- Professionalism, punctuality, and discretion in a school-based environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct sign language interpretation for a 5th-grade student in a Life Skills classroom
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, classroom teachers, and peers
- Support the student’s participation in all classroom activities throughout the school day
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all FERPA and district guidelines
- Work onsite Monday through Friday, 7:20 a.m. to 2:10 p.m., for 35 hours per week as a full-time equivalent
