Job Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering and design activities for multiple vessel projects.

  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary engineers and designers.

  • Develop resource-loaded project schedules and work plans.

  • Ensure engineering tasks are properly resourced, sequenced, and completed on schedule.

  • Coordinate engineering deliverables to support production, supply chain, and first-time quality.

  • Identify, track, and manage project risks.

  • Develop and manage budgets for multiple simultaneous engineering and design projects.

  • Monitor engineering costs and use cost performance data to adjust schedules, resources, and priorities.

  • Lead or coordinate project kickoff meetings and ongoing project collaboration.

  • Coordinate with design, program management, production, and organizational leadership teams.

  • Lead assigned design teams throughout the vessel design process.

  • Ensure design issues are addressed promptly and projects remain on schedule.

  • Ensure designs comply with contract requirements, specifications, classification society rules, regulations, and internal standards.

  • Review and approve engineering design drawings for release.

  • Identify incomplete work, discrepancies, and design issues and drive resolution.

  • Identify and coordinate procurement requirements for long-lead materials.

  • Ensure engineering schedules support material design, quoting, and ordering activities.

  • Ensure accurate and timely transfer of Bill of Materials data to Supply Chain.

  • Provide engineering support throughout vessel production.

  • Support resolution of production-related engineering issues.

  • Coordinate engineering support for trials, testing, project closeout, and vessel delivery.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement new engineering processes and procedures.

  • Develop continuous improvement initiatives across design, production support, and project engineering.

  • Contribute to engineering leadership and organizational development.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior engineering and design personnel toward technical expertise and future leadership.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the marine industry.

  • Specific experience designing and/or producing vessels under 150 feet.

  • Minimum 5 years of Project Engineering or Project Management experience.

  • Working knowledge of designing vessels for production.

  • Strong understanding of aluminum vessel design and construction.

  • Knowledge of vessel structures, electrical systems, mechanical systems, aluminum fabrication, manufacturing, and production.

  • Familiarity with classification society rules and requirements, including ABS, DNV, and USCG.

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.

  • Experience with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and cost management.

  • Experience supporting vessel production and engineering issue resolution.

  • Experience with continuous process improvement and engineering process development.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, and ShipConstructor.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.
