Based conveniently near Liberty, MO, this contract opportunity spans from August 24th to May 28th throughout a dynamic school district. As a key member serving elementary, middle, and high school students, you’ll play a vital role in fostering independence and confidence for visually impaired learners.
Your focus will be on providing direct instruction and evaluations, empowering students to navigate their world safely and effectively. Whether introducing mobility aids, developing daily living skills, or building urban navigation competence, you’ll help students develop practical abilities that set them up for success.
Ideal candidates bring:
- Current national certification (ACVREP/COMS)
- Experience working with visually impaired children and adolescents
- Knowledge of orientation and mobility techniques, including instruction in cane travel, guide dog readiness, Braille, money management, and independent living skills
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to connect with students, families, and educational teams
- Flexibility and organizational skills to travel to multiple schools within the district
Role responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough orientation and mobility assessments
- Designing and implementing individualized instruction based on student needs
- Delivering engaging, hands-on lessons in diverse school and community settings
- Collaborating with educators, support staff, and families
- Maintaining detailed documentation of all intervention and progress
