Position OverviewThe Respiratory Therapist II plays a crucial role in administering medications and providing respiratory care based on advanced knowledge and experience, utilizing an evaluate-and-treat approach. This position involves delivering care to patients with complex health issues, primarily in critical care settings, where independent decision-making and self-direction are essential. In addition to direct patient care, the Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for educating patients and their families, coordinating activities, fostering staff development, and engaging in professional growth. This role requires an understanding of the specific needs of diverse populations, addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational aspects of patient care. The Respiratory Therapist II also contributes to the training of new staff and students.
Key Responsibilities-
Customer Service:
- Complete patient care, documentation, and education.

Quality Patient Care:
- Conduct patient assessments and therapy evaluations.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to plan patient care.
- Verify orders and administer aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapies.
- Manage ventilators, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management (including intubation, extubation, and tracheostomy care).
- Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
- Educate patients and mentor new employees, students, and peers.
- Assist with invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac services, and pulmonary diagnostic testing as needed.

Safe and Quality Environment:
- Ensure accurate electronic orders, charting, and billing.
- Promote high standards of patient safety (including medication safety and NPSG).
- Engage in performance improvement initiatives to enhance care quality.
- Support evidence-based practices.
- Review updated and new departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to all organizational policies, work standards, and codes of conduct.
- Graduation from an accredited respiratory therapy program (CoARC or CAAHP) with at least 20 quarter hours of science.
- Associate’s Degree is required; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless specified otherwise:
- NBRC-RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist
- RCP - Respiratory Care Practitioner
- BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support Instructor
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS Instructor
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-I - PALS Instructor
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Provider or NRP-P - NRP Provisional (180 Days) or NRP-I - NRP Instructor
- 0-2 years of clinical experience, with a minimum of 6 months in critical care settings.
- Strong communication abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including familiarity with databases.
- Excellent customer relations, assessment, and communication skills are essential for this role.
