Hospice and Palliative Care Faculty Physician- UPMC Altoona
Job Description
We are currently looking for a certified family medicine or internal medicine physician, holding ABFM or AOBFP certification, who is either board eligible or board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. This position is for a faculty attending physician within our fellowship program. While experience in academic medicine is preferred, it is not a strict requirement.
Our organization operates a single-trainee fellowship program in collaboration with a well-established, university-affiliated family medicine program located in Central Pennsylvania. This program is designed with a rural focus and offers a comprehensive 8-8-8 training structure. Additionally, we have a transitional year residency associated with our fellowship.
About Our Palliative Care TeamOur dedicated palliative care team provides consultation and management services across various settings, including:
- Inpatient care
- Outpatient palliative clinic
- Three local nursing homes
The team consists of:
- 4 physicians
- 4 Advanced Practice Providers
- 1 fellow
- 1 licensed social worker
- 1 pharmacist
- 1 medical assistant/secretary
We also have a dedicated program director and coordinator overseeing the fellowship, along with two physicians who serve as certified hospice medical directors for separate hospice agencies.
Fellowship Program HighlightsOur fellowship program boasts a remarkable track record, with a 100% pass rate on board exams. This success is attributed to our robust hands-on training, which includes:
- Active management of a diverse range of diagnoses and acuity levels
- A comprehensive curriculum of well-structured didactics
As the sole fellowship at our hospital, the fellow will have the unique opportunity to learn from various subspecialists. Our sponsoring institution is UPMC Graduate Medical Education, with UPMC Altoona serving as our affiliated hospital. We also maintain a close relationship with the family medicine residency, providing oversight for residents during their geriatric rotations, occasionally precepting in the family medicine office, and covering the inpatient medicine service while managing our own family medicine patients.
Candidate QualificationsWe are in search of a candidate who:
- Embodies the core values of our organization: quality and safety, dignity and respect, caring and listening, responsibility and integrity, and excellence and innovation
- Demonstrates vision and enthusiasm for advancing the training of hospice and palliative medicine physicians
