Cytogenetic Pathology Opportunity in Pittsburgh, PA

The Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking Clinical Laboratory Geneticists for positions as Assistant Professor (up to 5 years of experience), Associate Professor (more than 5 years of experience), or Professor (10+ years of experience) Laboratory Director. These roles are available within the UPMC Cytogenetics Laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis and interpretation of laboratory results.
• Prepare and review final test reports, including karyotyping, FISH, microarray, and OGM analyses for oncological, prenatal, and postnatal specimens.
• Support the Medical Director in overseeing the operations related to specimen handling, testing, and reporting, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality for clients and patients.
• Work in a cutting-edge academic laboratory, developing and validating in-house assays for oncology and other clinically relevant applications.
• Assist in maintaining standard operating procedure manuals and quality control practices.
• Guide cytogenetics technical staff in proficiency testing programs as mandated by regulatory and licensing bodies (CLIA, CAP).
• Collaborate closely with the Division of Molecular & Genomic Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
• Engage in the education of Pathology and OB/GYN residents/fellows and train LGG fellows through the ACGME-accredited program.
• Participate in innovative projects, including publishing, collaboration, and the development of new tests, with departmental and institutional support for teaching and research.

Qualifications

• MD/DO and/or PhD candidates in Biology who are ABMGG-Certified or eligible for certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) or Cytogenetics are encouraged to apply.
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in cytogenetic testing of oncology specimens and those who have developed new molecular and cytogenetic tests, such as Optical Genome Mapping.
