We are in search of a Board Eligible or Board Certified General Surgeon with a focus on Surgical Critical Care to become a part of our Trauma/EGS team at UPMC Altoona. This role offers a chance to engage in acute care surgery within a significant regional program where the in-house trauma/EGS surgeon plays a pivotal clinical leadership role.

As a crucial community hospital, UPMC Altoona manages over 1,200 trauma cases and conducts more than 800 Emergency General Surgical procedures each year. Our team addresses trauma and urgent surgical emergencies, including biliary diseases, bowel obstructions, diverticulitis, appendicitis (ages 12 and up), soft tissue infections, and various other urgent general surgical issues.

At UPMC Altoona, your contributions will be valued. The in-house trauma/EGS surgeon serves as a key resource for the Emergency Department, medical staff, EMS, hospital leadership, and the broader community. You will collaborate with a close-knit team of skilled trauma, surgical critical care, and EGS physicians, supported by an experienced Trauma Medical Director, a dedicated Trauma Program Manager, a proactive PI and registry team, an outreach coordinator, and seasoned trauma APPs, along with the ARHS Administrative Manager and their team.

We provide comprehensive 24/7 in-house trauma/EGS coverage with backup call. Most trauma patients are admitted directly. Those needing Level I resources are quickly stabilized and transferred to a quaternary trauma center, with on-site aeromedical transport available. We maintain strong partnerships with regional EMS and act as a referral center for EGS transfers from nearby hospitals.
