Epilepsy position at UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA

The Department of Neurology at our organization is on the lookout for a faculty member to join the Division of Epilepsy. This role will focus on serving as an epileptologist, primarily concentrating on the surgical epilepsy program under the guidance of the Chair of Neurology and the Division Chief of Epilepsy. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with a distinguished neurosurgeon.

Key Responsibilities

• Join a dynamic epilepsy division within the Department of Neurology, which includes 11 adult epileptologists, 4 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and 8 fellows annually.
• Work alongside a dedicated team comprising epileptologists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, neuropsychiatrists, EEG technologists, epilepsy nurses, social workers, and Advanced Practice Providers.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Completion of a minimum of two years in an epilepsy fellowship.
• Experience in presurgical evaluations and the interpretation of stereo-EEG for adult patients with drug-resistant epilepsy.
• Possession of an MD or equivalent degree, with board certification or eligibility in Neurology and Epilepsy.
• Ability to secure an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license.

About Our Department and the Epilepsy Division

• A new 10-bed, self-contained adult Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is set to open in early 2025.
• The Division of Epilepsy provides comprehensive services for adults with epilepsy and is part of the University of Pittsburgh Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, which is accredited as a level 4 epilepsy center.
• This center is a collaborative effort involving the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
• Since its establishment in 1986, it has offered national and regional referral and consultative services.

• Research at the Epilepsy Center has led to the development of numerous new antiseizure medications, innovative presurgical evaluation techniques, and improved surgical outcomes for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy.
• The Director of the Epilepsy Division is among the most experienced functional epilepsy neurosurgeons in the country, having performed over 3,000 successful surgical procedures.
• Research funding for various studies within the department has consistently increased, with over $25 million received in FY25.
• The Department of Neurology has been awarded the NINDS UE5 grant to support research training for residents and fellows and is part of the NINDS Network for Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials.
