Job Description
Seeking dedicated Special Education Teachers ready to make a real difference in students’ lives across multiple high school campuses near Phoenix, AZ. This full-time contract opportunity focuses on essential life skills, transition programs, and structured intensive support classrooms—serving students with diverse needs, including emotional disabilities, autism, and those requiring behavioral support. Our district has several high-priority locations, and candidates must be able to commute within 30 minutes of Fairfax, Central, and Hayden campuses.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Arizona Secondary Teaching License
- Current K-12 Special Education Certificate
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Prior experience with students with emotional disabilities, autism, and/or self-regulation challenges
- Understanding of at-risk, bilingual (limited English proficiency), and ethnically diverse student populations
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and district special education guidelines
- Familiarity with developing and implementing IEPs and related documentation
- Previous training in Essential Elements of Effective Instruction (E.E.E.I.) or willingness to complete staff development
Role Responsibilities:
- Teach and support students in inclusion, SUCCESS, life skills/transition (CBT), practical academics, and STRIVE (self-contained behavior/autism) classrooms
- Coordinate with colleagues to create individualized support and transition plans
- Adapt instruction for functional academics and functional living skills
- Address both academic and social/emotional needs to support student growth
- Maintain timely, accurate student records and participate in required meetings
- Provide ongoing communication to parents, staff, and service providers
