Senior Staff Accountant

Location: Roanoke, VA (On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Salary: $54,000 - $90,000 (Based on experience and qualifications)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support corporate accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax compliance. This position plays a key role in month-end close, account reconciliations, corporate tax filings, payroll accounting support, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with GAAP, SOX, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in corporate tax accounting, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting. A CPA or CPA candidate is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare federal, state, and local corporate tax returns and supporting schedules.

  • Ensure tax compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Assist the Tax Manager with payroll accounting, payroll review, and employee benefit submissions.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries.

  • Complete month-end and quarter-end closing activities.

  • Prepare account reconciliations and supporting workpapers.

  • Compile daily, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports.

  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting documentation.

  • Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and company accounting policies.

  • Analyze financial transactions and resolve accounting discrepancies.

  • Communicate with internal departments regarding accounting and financial matters.

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.

  • Participate in process improvements and special accounting projects.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 2-3+ years of corporate tax or tax accounting experience

  • Experience preparing corporate tax returns and tax-related schedules

  • Strong understanding of General Ledger accounting

  • Experience with month-end and quarter-end close

  • Strong account reconciliation experience

  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively


Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA Candidate

  • Experience in a multi-subsidiary or multi-entity accounting environment

  • Payroll accounting experience

  • Manufacturing industry experience

  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance

  • Financial reporting experience

Work Authorization
