Sr. Staff Accountant

Location: Roanoke, VA (On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Salary: $54,000 - $90,000 (Based on experience and qualifications)
We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support corporate accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax compliance. This position plays a key role in month-end close, account reconciliations, corporate tax filings, payroll accounting support, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with GAAP, SOX, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in corporate tax accounting, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting. A CPA or CPA candidate is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare federal, state, and local corporate tax returns and supporting schedules.
Ensure tax compliance with all applicable regulations.
Assist the Tax Manager with payroll accounting, payroll review, and employee benefit submissions.
Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries.
Complete month-end and quarter-end closing activities.
Prepare account reconciliations and supporting workpapers.
Compile daily, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports.
Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting documentation.
Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and company accounting policies.
Analyze financial transactions and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Communicate with internal departments regarding accounting and financial matters.
Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
Participate in process improvements and special accounting projects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2-3+ years of corporate tax or tax accounting experience
Experience preparing corporate tax returns and tax-related schedules
Strong understanding of General Ledger accounting
Experience with month-end and quarter-end close
Strong account reconciliation experience
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or CPA Candidate
Experience in a multi-subsidiary or multi-entity accounting environment
Payroll accounting experience
Manufacturing industry experience
Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
