Job Description
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active Pharmacist license, and minimum 1+ years Pharmacist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A pharmacist opportunity is available for a contract-to-hire position in Asheville, NC, specializing in long-term care (LTC) mail order pharmacy. This role involves working Monday through Friday on a schedule of four 10-hour shifts, with shift options from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, for a duration of 13 weeks before transitioning to a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accept and dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor patient medication compliance and detect over-usage patterns.
- Ensure medicine supplies comply with legal requirements.
- Verify that prescribed medications are appropriate for patients.
- Maintain confidential patient records and pharmacy files with precision.
- Advise patients on medication usage, potential reactions, and address inquiries.
- Provide consultations on prescription and non-prescription medications, including storage, dosage, side effects, and drug interactions.
- Offer patient services such as smoking cessation, blood pressure monitoring, and cholesterol management.
- Educate patients on proper use and handling of medical devices including blood pressure monitors and glucose meters.
- Compound medications and prepare sterile solutions following established procedures.
- Supervise pharmacy staff, including pharmacy technicians and clerks.
- Manage pharmaceutical and medical supply inventory effectively.
- Identify drug-related problems and communicate with healthcare professionals to resolve issues.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and pharmacy interns.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year pharmacy experience.
- Experience in long-term care and/or mail order pharmacy is preferred.
- Sterile compounding experience is advantageous.
- Current North Carolina pharmacy license is required.
