Position: Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician

Location: St. Francis Medical Center

Primary Responsibilities

The EEG Technician will exhibit proficiency in all facets of neurodiagnostic testing for patients across various age groups and medical conditions, adhering to the standards set by the medical center and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. This role requires independent work with advanced instruments, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making in patient care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; an Associate's degree is preferred.
• Completion or enrollment in a CAAHEP accredited program in ElectroNeurodiagnostics or Neurophysiology, or a comparable field.
• Eligibility for registry in EEG, evoked potentials, long-term monitoring, and/or polysomnography through a recognized credentialing body such as the American Board of EEG Technologists (ABRET) or the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists (BRPT); preferred at the time of hire, mandatory within one year of employment.
• Current BLS CPR certification.

Key Job Functions

• Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in a variety of situations.
• Stay informed about safety protocols and demonstrate practical application of policies related to safety, infection control, universal precautions, and risk management.
• Engage in continuous education through staff meetings, workshops, and independent study to remain updated on industry advancements and enhance skills.
• Utilize and exemplify AIDET principles in customer interactions.
• Prepare the testing environment to ensure patient comfort and safety.
• Follow established protocols to prepare and conduct tests, including Awake, Asleep, EEG Bedside, Electrocerebral Silence, Long-Term Video EEG Monitoring, Continuous ICU Monitoring, Ambulatory EEG Monitoring, Sphenoidal Recording, Activation Procedures, Visual Evoked Potential Recording, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential Recording, and Somatosensory Recordings.
• Gather medical histories and understand disease processes and medication effects, adjusting equipment as necessary.
• Monitor, document, and analyze clinical and technical changes, modifying testing procedures as needed for each unique situation.
• Administer sedation as directed by physician orders, following departmental policies.
• Assist physicians with invasive lead placements.
• Demonstrate knowledge of all recording and ancillary equipment.
• Contribute as a team member by taking on additional tasks as needed and requested by supervisors.
• Exhibit sound judgment and initiative.
• Show proficiency in scheduling and rescheduling patient appointments, transcribing orders, and managing the registration process.

Compensation

Salary Range: Minimum: $24.94 | Maximum: $38.68
