Job Description

Around eighty percent of design work in this practice runs through engineers with real ownership of the technical output. This is an Associate Director Mechanical Engineer position with a building services and engineering practice based in London, with the project diversity that location suggests. The day-to-day mix runs HVAC system design, plant strategy, compliance work across Part L and Part F, and the coordination needed to make a mechanical scheme deliverable inside a multi-disciplinary team. Tools you would expect: Revit, Hevacomp or IES, AutoCAD, Bluebeam for coordination. You are operating at principal or associate director level. The remit covers technical leadership of a discipline, project portfolio responsibility, business development input, and visible influence on how the practice grows. Recurring themes on this brief: commercial and IES. Prior exposure to either is useful, not mandatory. The practice is structured so that technical authority and commercial responsibility sit together rather than in separate offices. Your portfolio decisions shape the team's workload, your business development input shapes what arrives next year, and the growth of the practice is something you influence directly rather than read about in the annual update. That combination is what makes the role worth moving for.Salary: 112,000 to 130,000 depending on experience. Working pattern: on-site, full time, based in London.Send your CV to Alex Cole at Responsum for a 20-minute call this week.If you’ve read this far and you’re still unsure and would prefer a detailed market insight including salary bands and market trends - then check out our free guide here: https://www.responsumltd.com/uk-salary-guide-2026
