Financial ControllerLocation: Crick, NorthamptonshireThe OpportunityMy client is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join a growing SME at an exciting stage of its development. This is a broad and hands-on role that combines financial leadership, commercial support, operational improvement, and team management.Working closely with the Managing Director and wider leadership team, you will provide the financial insight, controls and strategic guidance needed to support business performance and future growth. This role offers significant exposure across the organisation and the opportunity to influence decision-making at the highest level.What You'll Be Responsible ForDriving Financial PerformanceYou will take ownership of the company's financial reporting framework, ensuring management receives accurate, timely and meaningful information to support decision-making. This includes producing monthly management accounts, analysing business performance, identifying trends, and providing recommendations that contribute to achieving business objectives.Leading Planning and ForecastingA key aspect of the role will be coordinating budgets, forecasts and financial plans across the business. You will work collaboratively with operational stakeholders to understand business requirements, evaluate risks and opportunities, and ensure financial plans remain aligned with company goals.Managing Cash and Working CapitalYou will oversee the financial health of the organisation through effective cash flow management. This includes monitoring working capital, maintaining robust forecasting processes, supporting funding requirements and ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place to support day-to-day operations.Ensuring Financial Control and ComplianceThe Financial Controller will play a central role in maintaining strong governance and financial discipline. You will manage relationships with external auditors and professional advisers, oversee statutory reporting requirements, and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and obligations.Developing the Finance FunctionThis position provides leadership responsibility for the finance team and external support providers. You will encourage continuous improvement, develop team capability, and help create an efficient, customer-focused finance function that adds value across the business.Improving Systems and ProcessesYou will identify opportunities to enhance reporting, controls and business processes through better use of systems and technology. A proactive approach to continuous improvement will be essential in helping the organisation operate efficiently and scale effectively.About YouWere looking for a qualified accountant who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and a practical, hands-on approach.You will likely bring:ACA, ACCA, CIMA or QBE with relevant sector experience. Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior finance positionStrong financial reporting, management accounting and budgeting expertiseExperience managing cash flow and improving financial controlsThe ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholdersExperience leading, mentoring and developing finance staffA proactive mindset with a focus on problem-solving and continuous improvement
