At Principal level in this practice, you are the technical lead. Not one of several. Not a contributor with a senior title. The design decisions, client relationships, and project programme sit with you.Mechanical engineering in a data centre environment is a different proposition from a commercial office or residential scheme. Cooling load calculation, redundancy design, precision air conditioning, close control environments. The tolerance for error is minimal and the design methodology reflects that. If you have this background, you know the work. If you are coming from a strong commercial mechanical background and can demonstrate the technical rigour, the conversation is still worth having.Based in Central London. Two days a week in the office is the expectation. The rest is flexible.Salary is between £95,000 and £130,000, in line with Responsum’s 2026 UK Built Environment Salary Guide for Principal-level Mechanical Engineers in London.
