Overview:

We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Scrap Yard Equipment Operator to join our team in Opelika, AL. This position is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment, including a grapple excavator, bobcat (skid steer), wheel loader, forklifts, and other heavy machinery, to sort, move, load, and process scrap metal materials. The ideal candidate has previous heavy equipment experience, enjoys working outdoors, and is committed to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Skills and Experience:

Responsibilities

  • Operate a grapple excavator to load, sort, and move scrap metal throughout the yard.
  • Safely operate bobcats (skid steers), wheel loaders, forklifts, and other heavy equipment as needed.
  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers efficiently.
  • Sort and separate various types of scrap metal according to company procedures.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Assist with general yard maintenance and other duties as assigned.
  • Work effectively with team members to meet daily production goals.
Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating a grapple excavator is required.
  • Experience operating bobcats, loaders, forklifts, or other heavy equipment preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong attention to safety and equipment operation.
  • Dependable attendance and a positive work ethic.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
