Lead Cable Technician
Job Description
Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, the Lead Cabling Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting CAT5e/CAT6 copper cabling and single-mode/multi-mode fiber optic systems. This role works closely with project managers, estimators, and customers to review work orders, project scope, and technical requirements. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of telecommunications standards, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide recommendations based on customer needs.
The Lead Cabling Technician must be willing to travel and work out of town as needed. Work schedules may include weekends and holidays based on project requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination & Customer Service- Meet with customers to review project scope, requirements, and assigned tasks.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with project managers, team members, and customers via phone and email.
- Provide daily updates and documentation of completed work.
- Create detailed as-built documentation for completed projects.
- Collaborate effectively with the management team to ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality standards.
- Install, support, and maintain CAT5e/CAT6 cabling systems.
- Install fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
- Install innerduct and fiber pathways.
- Terminate, test, label, and certify copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Troubleshoot and repair copper and fiber connectivity issues.
- Dress and organize cables while maintaining clean and professional installations.
- Build complete IDF/MDF rooms, including racks, cabinets, and ladder rack systems.
- Install fiber channel trays and cable management systems.
- Install grounding and bonding systems, including TMGB bars.
- Install, cut, and bend EMT conduit and raceways as required.
- Drill and core through walls and structures using appropriate equipment.
- Cut ceiling tiles and prepare pathways for cabling installations.
- Penetrate fire-rated walls and install approved fire-stopping solutions, including fire sleeves and fire-stop materials.
- Maintain compliance with industry standards, organizational policies, and safety requirements.
- Lead by example and uphold attendance, safety, and professional conduct standards.
- Support team objectives by completing assigned tasks and assisting team members as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Lead Cabling Technician.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems and industry best practices.
- Experience working with CAT5e/CAT6 and single-mode/multi-mode fiber optic cabling.
- Proficiency with Fluke test equipment and cable certification processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and resolve problems efficiently.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and floor plans.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable, dependable, self-motivated, and eager to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel and work out of town, including weekends and holidays when required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, peers, managers, and manufacturers via phone and email.
This is a Contract position based out of Truckee, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $69.50 - $69.50/hr.
