- General contractor (residential Real Estate and Property) - Houston (TX) - Permanent role - $140,000 - $170,000 per year Client Details Our client is a well-established General Contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex commercial and residential construction projects across Texas. With a growing project portfolio and a commitment to operational excellence, the company is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting function. Description The successful Controller will: Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Oversee job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, revenue recognition, and project profitability analysis. Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures. Manage banking relationships, cash flow forecasting, and working capital initiatives. Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements. Partner with operations and project management teams to monitor project financial performance and identify risks and opportunities. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support strategic decision-making. Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Profile The successful Controller will: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation preferred. 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Prior experience in the construction, engineering, general contracting, or project-driven industry required. Strong understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition. Experience managing month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes. Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and manage accounting teams. Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent communication and business partnering capabilities. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and growing organization.
