Job Overview

Department: Inpatient Acute Care

Schedule: PRN, Variable Shifts, Flexible Start Times

Shift Differentials: Available for night, weekend, and additional shifts

Location: Our facility in Shawnee

Position Summary

The role involves assessing and implementing medically prescribed physical therapy programs aimed at addressing movement dysfunction and alleviating pain caused by injuries, illnesses, disabilities, or other health-related issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial and ongoing evaluations of patients' conditions.
  • Develop, modify, and assess care plans tailored to identified issues, engaging patients and their families in the process.
  • Administer therapy interventions using standard physical therapy techniques suitable for each patient's condition.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff by identifying educational needs.
  • Ensure continuity of care by collaborating on discharge planning with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, providing home instructions, recommending equipment or modifications, and suggesting follow-up care as necessary.
  • Supervise the activities of physical therapy assistants, students, and other support staff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation reflecting patients' responses to therapy and the necessity for skilled interventions as mandated by regulatory standards.
  • Work with a high level of alertness and safety.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy or a related field, as required for licensure in the state of practice.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands
  • Constantly standing.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Regularly using hearing and speech for effective communication.
  • Frequently discerning body sounds and alarms.
  • Regularly utilizing vision for both near and far distances.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, gripping, and data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients and objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional driving and rare crawling.
Licensure and Certifications

Resuscitation Certification: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) certification is required within 90 days of employment. Additional resuscitation certifications may be necessary based on departmental needs.

State Licensure:

  • Illinois: Licensed Physical Therapist - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Missouri: Licensed Physical Therapist - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Oklahoma: Licensed Physical Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board
  • Wisconsin: Licensed Physical Therapist - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
