Job Description
Our Client is an innovative engineering group that offers civil and structural engineering services for various projects across the Gulf South. The company specializes in services like site design, drainage planning, structural building design/drafting, and structural inspections/evaluations, among others.
Role DescriptionThis is a full-time on-site role for a Structural Engineer located in Baton Rouge, LA.
We are looking for an engineer to help the City of St. George in Baton Rouge with building inspections, code compliance, plan review support, and code enforcement services.
Services may include, but are not limited to:
Conduct field inspections of residential construction projects including new construction, additions, and renovation inspections.
Perform inspections for foundations, concrete placement, structural framing, roofing, building envelope systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, mechanical/HVAC systems, energy code requirements, fire-resistance-rated assemblies, and life safety systems.
Verify compliance with the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code (LSUCC), International Code Council (ICC) Codes, City of St. George Code of Ordinances, Unified Development Code (UDC), approved construction documents, and applicable state and local regulations.
Review approved plans, permit documents, prior inspection reports, engineering documents, and related project records before conducting field inspections.
Identify code deficiencies and issue correction notices, inspection reports, Stop Work Orders, and violation notices as authorized by the Building Official.
Conduct inspections of single-family and two-family residential dwellings, accessory structures, and other improvements regulated by applicable codes and ordinances.
Provide technical assistance and code interpretations to city staff.
Assist with plan review activities and evaluate construction documents for code compliance when requested.
Maintain accurate inspection records, electronic documentation, photographs, field notes, and correspondence associated with assigned inspections.
Prepare written reports for compliance or violation notices.
Attend meetings with City officials, IBTS personnel, contractors, developers, and citizens as required.
Perform emergency inspections and disaster-related inspections when requested, including inspections conducted outside normal business hours.
Coordinate inspection scheduling and prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of assigned inspections.
Calculations and Structural Analysis skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Conduct site visits to monitor progress and quality of work
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other professionals to ensure project success
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus
