As a fast-growing startup in a regulated industry, we are seeking an experienced Operations & Compliance Manager to help build and support our operational and compliance functions.

This is a high-impact role where you'll work closely with leadership to ensure smooth merchant onboarding, maintain compliance operations, and support the company's commitment to regulatory excellence.

Position Summary

The Operations & Compliance Manager will serve as the operational hub for merchant onboarding and day-to-day compliance activities. This role works closely with internal leadership, compliance professionals, legal advisors, and external technology partners to ensure operational processes are executed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoys building processes, and has a strong understanding of financial services compliance.

Key ResponsibilitiesMerchant Onboarding

• Manage the end-to-end merchant onboarding process.

• Collect, review, and organize business registration documents, ownership information, identification, and supporting financial records.

• Coordinate onboarding approvals with third-party compliance and technology providers.

• Communicate with merchants regarding documentation requirements and onboarding status.

• Maintain complete and organized onboarding records.

Compliance Operations

• Monitor daily compliance alerts, transaction holds, and flagged activities.

• Record and maintain compliance cases with accurate documentation.

• Escalate suspicious or high-risk activity to the Compliance Officer in accordance with company procedures.

• Ensure only approved merchants are actively processing transactions.

• Respond to merchant inquiries and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.

Records & Reporting

• Maintain accurate and organized records for merchants, transactions, compliance alerts, and operational activities.

• Prepare recurring compliance reports for management review.

• Assist with executive and board-level compliance reporting.

• Ensure all compliance decisions and actions are properly documented.

Vendor & Partner Coordination

• Serve as the primary operational contact for external compliance and technology partners.

• Track service issues, onboarding requests, escalations, and outstanding compliance matters.

• Maintain documentation related to vendor performance, agreements, and compliance processes.

Required Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience in fintech, payments, banking operations, financial services, or compliance.

• Working knowledge of KYC, KYB, AML, and financial compliance processes.

• Experience handling confidential financial and business documentation.

• Excellent organizational and case management skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Must be available to work full-time on-site in New York.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with payment processors, money services businesses (MSBs), or digital asset companies.

• Familiarity with BSA/AML regulations and FinCEN compliance requirements.

• Experience using compliance platforms such as Sumsub, Jumio, Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or similar solutions.

• CAMS or other compliance-related certification.

• Knowledge of blockchain technology and digital asset transactions.
