Job Description

CNC Lathe Setter/Operator Summary of the Role The CNC Lathe Setter/Operator will work within a CNC machining department alongside Team Leaders, Senior Setters, Setters and Operators, as well as supporting departments including Inspection, Milling, Welding and Maintenance. The role is primarily responsible for setting, proving out and optimising CNC lathes to ensure the safe, accurate and efficient manufacture of precision-engineered components. The position focuses on machine setup, tooling changes, offset adjustments, process control and maintaining production efficiency, while supporting operators during production runs. Key Responsibilities * Prepare CNC machines for manufacture in line with engineering drawings, route cards and production requirements, including checking oils and coolant. * Set tooling and work-holding equipment, including chucks, collets and fixtures. * Prove out CNC programmes and make authorised adjustments. * Adjust machine offsets to achieve the required first-off component following inspection. * Support CNC operators during production runs where required. * Safely and efficiently operate CNC lathes to maintain production output when required. * Carry out in-process inspection checks using precision measuring equipment at specified intervals. * Monitor component quality and machine performance throughout production. * Replace worn tooling as required to maintain component quality. * Identify and report machine faults to minimise scrap, downtime and production delays. * Maintain good housekeeping standards, including regular swarf removal and keeping the work area clean and tidy. * Assist with continuous improvement activities. * Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by management in support of production requirements. * Participate in training and skills development activities as required
