This is not a role where you'll simply produce reports and process transactions. You'll be a trusted business partner, working closely with Directors to help drive commercial performance, strengthen financial controls and support the ongoing growth of the organisation.If you thrive in a fast-moving environment, enjoy taking ownership and want to play a meaningful role in shaping a successful business, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.Working alongside an Accounts Assistant, you'll lead the day-to-day finance function while contributing to wider operational and strategic decisions across the business.Why Join Us?Join a successful and growing SME where your contribution genuinely mattersWork directly with Directors and influence key business decisionsBroad, varied role with real autonomy and responsibilityBe part of a supportive and collaborative management teamOpportunity to make improvements, drive efficiencies and leave your markStable business with a positive, team-focused cultureThe OpportunityAs Senior Accounts Manager, you will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring the smooth running of all accounting activities from transactional processing through to management accounts preparation and financial reporting.You'll be responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, providing commercial insight and ensuring the business has accurate, timely financial information to support decision-making.This is a hands-on role requiring a practical finance professional who enjoys being involved in every aspect of the accounts function whilst also contributing to the wider success of the organisation.Key ResponsibilitiesFinance & AccountsLead the day-to-day operation of the finance function.Manage purchase ledger, sales ledger and nominal ledger activities.Produce accurate and timely management accounts and financial reports.Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations.Prepare and submit VAT returns.Process monthly payroll, PAYE and pension submissions.Manage supplier payments and maintain effective cash flow controls.Oversee credit control activities and customer account management.Process import transactions and foreign currency activity.Manage customer credits, refunds and account adjustments.Maintain robust financial controls and compliance procedures.Commercial & Business SupportProvide meaningful financial insight and analysis to Directors.Support commercial decision-making relating to customer accounts, credit limits and risk management.Partner closely with sales and operational teams to support business performance.Deliver accurate customer account information to support outstanding customer service.Work alongside external accountants and advisers.Leadership & Operational SupportAct as a trusted member of the management team.Support and develop finance processes and business improvements.Assist with HR administration through Sage HR.Build strong relationships across all areas of the business.Provide management support during periods of absence or increased demand.Contribute to business projects, operational initiatives and continuous improvement activities.About YouWe're looking for a capable and commercially minded finance professional who enjoys responsibility, values accuracy and can confidently operate within a dynamic SME environment.Essential Experience & SkillsSignificant finance experience gained within a fast-paced SME environment.Extensive Sage 50 Accounts experience.Strong bookkeeping and transactional accounting expertise.Experience managing the full finance function from processing through to management accounts.Excellent knowledge of VAT, payroll, PAYE and reconciliations.Experience handling imports and foreign exchange transactions.Strong credit control and customer account management experience.Ability to work closely with business owners and senior stakeholders.Proven experience contributing to wider business operations beyond finance.Strong commercial awareness and decision-making capability.Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.Adaptable, proactive and willing to support the wider business when required.You'll Stand Out If You Are...A natural problem-solver who enjoys improving processes.Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.A confident communicator who builds relationships across all levels.Someone who enjoys being part of a close-knit team where everyone contributes to success.BenefitsCompetitive salary of £40,000 -
