Engineering ManagerLiverpool | Hybrid workingThe CompanyWe're working with an established Liverpool-based technology business that is investing significantly in its digital platforms and engineering capability.As part of this next phase of growth, they're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a small, experienced engineering team, support the development of a modern consumer-facing platform and help shape how the engineering function evolves.This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the people and leadership side of engineering management but still wants to remain close to the technology.The RoleAs Engineering Manager, you'll take ownership of the team's delivery, ways of working and continued development.You'll work closely with engineers, product and senior stakeholders to make sure the team is focused on the right priorities and has the environment, processes and support needed to deliver effectively.While this isn't a role where you need to be the strongest technical specialist in every conversation, you'll need enough technical depth to challenge decisions, contribute to technical discussions and support the team when required.The engineering team is currently relatively small and experienced, with plans to grow alongside the development of the new platform. You'll therefore have a genuine opportunity to influence how the team develops, from hiring and onboarding through to engineering practices and career development.What you'll be doing Leading a small software engineering team and taking ownership of deliveryWorking closely with product and senior stakeholders around priorities and deliveryRemaining technically involved through code reviews, design discussions and occasional hands-on contributionIdentifying and removing blockers across the engineering teamImproving engineering processes, development practices and ways of workingHelping the team make effective use of modern development and AI-assisted engineering toolsWhat we're looking for EssentialPrevious experience leading or managing a software engineering teamA strong track record of mentoring and developing software engineersGood technical knowledge of Node.js / TypeScriptExperience working with React and/or Next.jsCloud experience across Azure, AWS or GCPA good understanding of modern software engineering practices, including code review, deployment and development processesExperience improving how engineering teams work and deliverConfidence working with modern AI-assisted development toolsGood judgement when evaluating technologies, tools and development approachesBenefitsSalary - £90,000 - £100,000Annual training and conference budgetModern engineering tooling and paid AI development toolsCompany bonus schemePensionPrivate health insuranceCycle to work schemeRegular company and social eventsTPBN1_UKTJ
