Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist / Manchester | £20.50 - £22 Per Hour Depending On Experience

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist to join a successful and growing engineering organisation.

CPM Engineering is now looking for an experienced Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist to join our skilled and dynamic workshop team in Manchester. This is a hands-on manual machining position, ideal for someone who enjoys working with traditional engineering machinery, producing high-quality components, and tackling a variety of repair and machining challenges.

\n

As a Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for accurately machining components from engineering drawings, samples and patterns. You will need a strong understanding of engineering measurements, tolerances, limits and fits, together with a commitment to producing work to a high standard. The role will involve a variety of machining and repair work, so flexibility, practical problem-solving skills and a willingness to occasionally work on customer sites are important.

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist role:

    \n
  • Manual turning and machining of components to engineering drawings, samples and patterns
  • \n
  • Set up and operate conventional/manual lathes and associated workshop equipment
  • \n
  • Produce components accurately to specified dimensions and tolerances
  • \n
  • Interpret and work accurately from engineering drawings
  • \n
  • Use micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment
  • \n
  • Understand and work to limits, fits and tolerances
  • \n
  • Inspect finished components to ensure they meet required quality standards
  • \n
  • Undertake repair and refurbishment work on mechanical components
  • \n
  • Identify machining and repair requirements and use engineering judgement to resolve issues
  • \n
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
  • \n
  • Be prepared to undertake occasional on-site work when required
  • \n
  • Work effectively as part of the wider workshop and engineering team
  • \n

Skills & Experience Required:

\n
    \n
  • Recognised apprenticeship or relevant qualification in mechanical engineering, machining or fitting
  • \n
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Turner, Manual Turner or Manual Machinist
  • \n
  • Strong practical experience using conventional/manual lathes
  • \n
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings & confident using precision measuring equipment
  • \n
  • Good understanding of measurements, tolerances, limits and fits
  • \n
  • Previous experience within an engineering, manufacturing, repair or electro-mechanical environment
  • \n
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
  • \n
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • \n
  • Practical, enthusiastic, and positive approach to engineering challenges
  • \n
  • Understanding of modern mechanical repair and machining techniques
  • \n
  • Full driving licence required
  • \n
