General Operative

Due to expansion, our client is looking for a team member to join their business as a General Operative to help with the day-to-day cleaning and tidying up at various projects. You will be the kind of person who takes pride in their work and likes to work autonomously and proactively.

Our client handles a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from residential refurbishments and site strip-outs to specialist building work. Because of consistent project growth, they are looking to hire a permanent, dependable General Operative to join their core team.

This is a permanent position designed for someone who thrives on variety and active physical work. No two days will look the same. One day you could be helping strip back walls and carry out cleanup tasks on a restoration project; the next, you might be driving between merchants to pick up materials and delivering them directly to active sites or ensuring site skips are loaded efficiently to keep projects on track.

As the General Operative, you will be assisting with:

• Demolition & Site Prep: Assist with manual strip-outs, breaking down non-structural walls, and clearing fixtures.
\n
• Restoration Cleanup: Support specialist teams with clearing debris, cleaning, and securing sites affected by water or fire damage.
\n
• Logistics & Materials: Drive company vehicles to pick up building materials, machinery, or tools from suppliers and deliver them to various regional sites.
\n
• Waste & Site Management: Load skips, keep work areas free of hazards, and maintain high standards of site safety.
\n
• Trades Assistance: Support carpenters, plasterers, groundworkers, and other site trades with heavy lifting and setup.
\n

As the General Operative, you will have:

• Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence required (essential for delivering materials and operating company vehicles).
\n
• Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and adaptable with a strong practical mindset.
\n
• Physical Capability: Comfortable with heavy lifting, repetitive manual tasks, and site work in all weather conditions.
\n
• Safety Mindset: Able to follow health and safety procedures on busy, active sites.
\n
• Experience: Previous experience in construction, site labouring, or basic groundworks is preferred, but a proactive attitude and willingness to learn are a priority.
