Your new company Hays are working in partnership with a well-established building services consultancy to recruit an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer for their growing team in Bournemouth.This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer looking to further their career within a dynamic and supportive consultancy environment. You will work on a broad range of projects across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, hospitality, and mixed-use developments, delivering innovative and sustainable mechanical building services solutions.Your new role As an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects from concept through to completion. Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions that meet client objectives and industry standards.

  • Prepare mechanical building services designs and calculations.
  • \n
  • Design systems including HVAC, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic water services, drainage, and renewable technologies.
  • \n
  • Produce technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.
  • \n
  • Support the delivery of projects through all RIBA stages.
  • \n
  • Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and other consultants.
  • \n
  • Attend design team and project meetings.
  • \n
  • Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, British Standards, and industry best practices.
  • \n
  • Assist with site inspections and technical reviews when required.
  • \n
  • Support junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
  • \n

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree or HNC/HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • \n
  • Experience working within a building services consultancy environment.
  • \n
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services design principles.
  • \n
  • Experience using industry software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES, Hevacomp, Cymap, or similar.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of current UK Building Regulations and CIBSE guidance.
  • \n
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • \n
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to project delivery.
  • \n
  • Progress towards professional accreditation (IEng or CEng) would be advantageous.
  • \n
