Trainee Estimator / Estimator – Bedford

A leading flooring subcontractor in Bedford has an opportunity for a Trainee Estimator or Estimator to join their commercial team. They are financially strong, expanding, and known for exceptional quality and service. This is a great role for someone who wants to learn, progress and grow in a fast-paced commercial environment.

You will be joining a team of six, consisting of two Business Development Managers and four Estimators. Hybrid working is available after a training period.

Projects typically range between £5,000 and £2,000,000.

The Role – Trainee Estimator / Estimator

\n

This is a full-time, office-based role with regular site visits. You will assist with and develop skills in:

  • Reviewing drawings and specifications
  • \n
  • Quantity take-offs
  • \n
  • Preparing estimates and costings
  • \n
  • Pricing bills of quantities and producing lump-sum tenders
  • \n
  • Supplier and subcontractor enquiries
  • \n
  • Comparing quotations and supporting procurement
  • \n
  • Assisting with tender submissions
  • \n
  • Supporting contract administration and commercial reporting
  • \n
  • Carrying out site surveys 1–2 times per week
  • \n
  • Working on projects requiring security clearance
  • \n
\n

You will typically manage 7–8 live tenders at any one time, valued between £50,000 and £1.5m.

The Right Person – Trainee Estimator / Estimator

  • 5 GCSEs including a C in Maths
  • \n
  • Must be able to drive
  • \n
  • Good attention to detail
  • \n
  • Able to juggle multiple tenders and deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • \n
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • \n
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • \n
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • \n
  • Experience in negotiation is beneficial
  • \n
  • Comfortable working on security-cleared projects (training provided)
  • \n

Working Hours

\n

8.30am – 5.00pm Hybrid working available after a training period.
