The Department of Radiation Oncology at our organization in Johnstown, PA, is thrilled to announce an opening for a medical physicist. This position offers the chance to collaborate with Dr. Saiful Huq, a distinguished figure in the field known for his significant scientific and professional contributions. Dr. Huq has played pivotal roles in various committees, including TG51 and TG100, and has been involved with IAEA TRS398 and TRS483 Codes of Practice. He served as the President of the AAPM in 2020 and has mentored numerous young medical physicists who are now making their mark globally.

Position Requirements

• A Master’s or Ph.D. in Physics or Medical Physics is required.
• ABR/ABMP Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Therapy Medical Physics is preferred but not mandatory.
• Candidates must fulfill the criteria for qualified experts as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or the Pennsylvania State regulatory agency.
• Ability to work 1-2 days remotely is available, but candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from Johnstown.

Additional positions are also available in Farrell, Altoona, and Williamsport, PA.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical medical physics services, including:
• Regular quality assurance testing of radiotherapy equipment and treatment delivery processes.
• Dosimetric calibration of radiation therapy equipment.
• Ensuring compliance with Pennsylvania radiation safety and licensing regulations.
• Offering routine clinical support.
• Implementing 4DCT and gated radiation therapy.
• Receive full support from the UPMC Medical Physics Division.
• Collaborate with a network of over 30 medical physicists across the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network.
• Contribute to the division's mission of scaling advanced techniques to provide high-quality care close to patients' homes.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at our facility in Johnstown is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Varian 23EX linear accelerators with on-board kV imaging, cone-beam CT, and gated Rapid Arc delivery. We utilize a GE Discovery 4D CT simulator and a comprehensive suite of quality assurance equipment. Treatment planning and medical record documentation are managed using Varian Eclipse TPS and ARIA EMR.
