  • Schedule may vary based on client caseload, program schedule, facility occupancy, and operational needs

  • Weekday, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday coverage may be required

  • On-call requirements and shift details will be discussed during the interview

Setting: Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment
Patient Population: Adults

Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SUD Counselor to provide substance use disorder treatment and recovery support in a residential treatment setting. The counselor will work closely with Primary Therapists, Dual Diagnosis Therapists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and the broader multidisciplinary treatment team.

The role focuses on addiction treatment, recovery support, treatment planning, relapse prevention, and aftercare planning. The counselor will provide individual and group counseling while supporting clients throughout their treatment and recovery journey.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, ethical standards, communication skills, and a genuine commitment to helping individuals achieve long-term recovery.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Conduct substance use assessments and develop treatment plans.

  • Provide individual and group counseling.

  • Facilitate relapse prevention, life skills, and family education groups.

  • Monitor client progress and provide clinical recommendations.

  • Participate in treatment team meetings.

  • Develop aftercare and discharge plans.

  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation.

  • Follow HIPAA, Virginia regulations, and clinical standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's-level education with eligibility for CSAC credential.

  • Relevant substance abuse education/experience may be considered.

  • Current Virginia license/credential in good standing.

  • Experience in substance use disorder treatment.

  • CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • LPC preferred
