Metabolic Geneticist
Job Description
Our organization is currently seeking a full-time Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist who is Board Certified or Board Eligible. This role includes a faculty position at the School of Medicine, with the appointment level reflecting your training and experience.
This is a fantastic opportunity for both newly trained and seasoned clinicians/educators in metabolic genetics, as well as those with a broad interest in various aspects of clinical genetics and genomics. The responsibilities of this position encompass:
- Newborn screening
- Patient care
- Inpatient consultations
- Outpatient genetic clinics
- Collaboration in multidisciplinary team environments
- Teaching medical students, pediatric and neurology residents, and genetic counseling students
- Engaging in research activities
Protected time for research is available, and we encourage a focus on research initiatives. There are numerous opportunities for both intramural and extramural collaboration, as well as program development. The clinical genetics practice is diverse and extensive, providing rich experiences in various specialties, including:
- Neurogenetics
- Cardiogenetics
- Cancer genetics
- Dysmorphology
- Congenital anomalies
The genetics team consists of two full-time and two part-time geneticists, along with two per diem geneticists, four pediatric genetic counselors, and a genetic counseling assistant. Additionally, a new multispecialty pediatric outpatient facility is set to open next year.
Our clinical laboratory is in the process of establishing a cutting-edge genetic and genomic testing facility to deliver comprehensive diagnostic services throughout the health system, serving the Inland Empire. This lab will include a PhD laboratory geneticist and a laboratory-based genetic counselor.
The School of Medicine is also launching a newly accredited graduate program (MS) in genetic counseling, with its inaugural class starting in the fall of 2025.
Strategically located in Southern California, our Medical Center and Children's Hospital boasts the largest Level IV NICU in the state, catering to the two largest counties in the nation and approximately 25% of California's population. The Children's Hospital is among the few centers in California offering pediatric cardiac transplants and ECMO, and is developing a Perinatal Care Center focused on prenatal diagnosis to better support high-risk pregnancies and infants with congenital anomalies diagnosed prenatally. The Medical Center and Children's Hospital also provide specialized team centers for:
- Cystic fibrosis
- Hemoglobinopathies
- Spina bifida
- Metabolic genetics
- Craniofacial anomalies
The starting base compensation for this position ranges from $252,000 to $278,000, adjusted according to years of experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to departmental compensation plans. Further details regarding compensation will be discussed during the recruitment process.
