We are looking for a full-time, board-certified Medical Dosimetrist to become a part of our dedicated team. This role is based at our organization’s Cancer Center, which is affiliated with a prominent cancer network. The selected candidate will collaborate with a local team consisting of two physicists, another dosimetrist, and two radiation oncologists, utilizing Varian TrueBeam and IX linear accelerators, all supported by an integrated ARIA/Eclipse system. Our treatment modalities include 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, respiratory gating, and deep inspiration breath hold techniques. You will also be part of a larger network of over 30 dosimetrists, offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits. Job SummaryThe Medical Dosimetrist plays a crucial role in developing optimal treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy. This involves close collaboration with radiation oncologists, radiation therapy technologists, and medical physicists. Key responsibilities include participating in CT simulations, planning radiation treatments, ensuring quality management for oncology patients, and effective communication with the clinical team throughout the treatment planning and implementation phases.
Key Responsibilities- Assist radiation therapy technologists (RTTs) during the treatment simulation process, including the use of ancillary treatment devices and patient positioning techniques.
- Contour and delineate critical normal structures and planning structures using various imaging modalities.
- Conduct rigid and deformable image registration for multi-modality image sets.
- Utilize principles of radiation physics in treatment planning, covering areas such as 2D and 3D treatment planning, IMRT, 4D planning, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, and brachytherapy.
- Apply knowledge of radiobiology, including dose tolerances and calculations related to hypofractionation and BED/EQD2.
- Perform accurate radiation dose calculations, both manually and via computer, considering beam modifiers and irregular fields.
- Engage in special treatment procedures, including total body irradiation (TBI) and intra-operative radiation therapy (IORT).
- Assist with quality assurance tasks as directed by a qualified medical physicist.
- Conduct patient-specific radiation measurements using various dosimetry tools as instructed.
- Support high dose rate (HDR) and low dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy procedures, including patient setup and treatment planning.
- Participate in quality management in line with departmental policies and national standards.
- Perform routine chart checks as per departmental guidelines.
- Contribute to charge capture and documentation for billing in accordance with departmental policies.
- Engage in clinical research aimed at developing and implementing new radiation therapy techniques.
- Participate in educational initiatives, providing training to new staff, residents, and trainees.
- Foster a supportive and caring environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Complete miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervising medical physicists.
- Uphold high ethical standards in interactions with patients, students, and colleagues.
- Assist in acquiring patient data through various methods and integrate this information into treatment plans.
- Ensure accurate data transfer of patient and treatment plan information to clinical systems.
- Maintain a strong commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, and safety in all tasks.
- Generate clinically optimal treatment plans using knowledge of anatomy, radiation biology, safety, and therapy techniques.
- Communicate effectively with the radiation oncologist during the treatment planning process.
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Completion of a Medical Dosimetry educational program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Board certification from the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) is required.
- Board-eligible candidates must achieve certification within two attempts during the first two years of employment.
- Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) or board eligibility is required, with maintenance of continuing education credits for certification.
- CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, including both theoretical and practical components within 30 days of hire.
- Must demonstrate a solid overall performance rating in annual reviews and show expertise in radiation treatment planning for both simple and complex cases.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is necessary.
