Electrical Engineer (Healthcare Construction)

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide professional engineering and construction management support for healthcare facility modernization, renovation, and new construction projects in the Huntington, WV area.
The Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical advisor for electrical engineering activities and will support design review, construction oversight, quality assurance, commissioning, technical compliance, and project closeout. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with complex facility electrical systems and a solid background in both electrical engineering and field construction management.
Key ResponsibilitiesReview electrical designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and project documentation for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
Provide technical guidance on electrical construction approaches, system coordination, value engineering, schedule impacts, and issue resolution.
Perform field inspections of electrical construction activities and verify compliance with approved documents, contract requirements, codes, and industry standards.
Monitor contractor work and identify deficiencies, quality concerns, coordination issues, and potential schedule impacts.
Review contractor quality control activities, testing procedures, inspections, and corrective actions.
Review contractor schedules, progress reports, change proposals, field modifications, and payment applications.
Evaluate electrical system integration, utility shutdowns, construction phasing, tie-ins, and sequencing.
Analyze electrical submittals, RFIs, testing procedures, and commissioning plans.
Evaluate change orders, technical issues, and associated cost impacts.
Support cost estimating, budget reviews, technical evaluations, and development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs).
Prepare inspection reports, deficiency logs, technical memoranda, meeting notes, and project documentation.
Maintain project records related to inspections, testing, commissioning, issue resolution, and closeout.
Participate in progress meetings, coordination meetings, design reviews, construction planning, and scheduling discussions.
Support commissioning of electrical distribution, emergency power, generators, UPS systems, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, and other mission-critical systems.
Witness equipment startup, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and system verification.
Review O&M manuals, as-built documentation, warranties, training materials, and turnover documentation.
Assist with owner training, occupancy readiness, operational turnover, and project closeout.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Minimum 6 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
Minimum 3 years of field construction management, construction administration, or construction oversight experience.
Experience supporting both design and construction phases of facility projects.

Experience with electrical systems in complex facilities, including:
Normal and emergency power distribution
Generators
UPS systems
Lighting systems
Fire alarm systems
Telecommunications infrastructure
Low-voltage systems
Grounding systems
Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA standards.
Knowledge of electrical construction practices, quality assurance, and inspection requirements.
Experience with electrical commissioning, equipment startup, integrated systems testing, and facility turnover.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, schedules, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
Knowledge of construction scheduling, project controls, cost estimating, change management, and progress verification.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, designers, owners, and government stakeholders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Ability to obtain and maintain required government credentials and facility access.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
Healthcare, hospital, medical facility, or other complex/mission-critical facility experience is highly desirable.
Experience with government or federally funded construction projects is a plus.
The ideal candidate is an Electrical Engineer with strong field construction experience, rather than a purely design-focused engineer. Candidates should be comfortable reviewing electrical designs and technical documentation while also performing field inspections, coordinating with contractors, monitoring quality, supporting commissioning, and resolving construction-related technical issues.
