Job Post Summary
Senior accounting and financial reporting leadership position responsible for directing the preparation, review, and submission of consolidated financial statements and external financial reports. The role partners closely with the Chief Accounting Officer and oversees SEC reporting, GAAP compliance, SOX/internal controls, external audits, technical accounting, consolidation processes, and accounting team development.
This is a public-company financial reporting leadership role, so the strongest candidates should have substantial experience with SEC reporting, 10-K/10-Q/8-K filings, SOX, GAAP, technical accounting, and external audit management.
Job Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end preparation, review, and submission of 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other SEC filings.
Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SEC regulations, and applicable financial reporting requirements.
Manage relationships and communication with external auditors.
Coordinate audit schedules, requests, deliverables, and issue resolution.
Resolve complex accounting and financial reporting matters and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
Monitor new accounting standards and regulatory developments.
Lead implementation of new accounting guidance.
Prepare technical accounting analyses for complex transactions.
Oversee financial reporting internal controls, including control design, documentation, testing support, and remediation.
Partner with Internal Audit, risk management, and process owners to strengthen the control environment.
Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, controls, and consolidation processes.
Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, transparency, efficiency, and timeliness.
Support the Chief Accounting Officer on strategic accounting and reporting initiatives.
Train, mentor, and supervise accounting professionals.
Provide accounting and financial reporting support to other business functions as required.
Qualifications and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA certification strongly preferred / effectively mandatory for a competitive candidate.
Typically 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
Strong experience with SEC financial reporting for a public company.
Hands-on experience preparing or reviewing 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls over financial reporting.
Experience managing external audit relationships and audit engagements.
Strong technical accounting and research capabilities.
Experience with complex accounting transactions and accounting policy development.
Experience managing or mentoring accounting teams.
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Public accounting experience, particularly Big 4 or large national accounting firm experience, is highly desirable.
REIT, real estate, investment management, or other SEC-regulated/public-company experience is a major advantage.
