About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer — a senior individual contributor who works across multiple systems on open-ended problems, in close collaboration with peers. At this level, your impact reaches well beyond your own workstream.

You work across Care Finance's provider and partner platform — the systems that connect PayZen to health systems and partners — on a months-long horizon, keeping them reliable under HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2 controls.

Responsibilities

Set the Craft Standard

Bring expert craft and systems thinking, and teach others as you go. Use AI-native approaches to make work that was impossible a quarter ago the new baseline.

Find the Problems Others Miss

Find the problems others miss, and shape solutions that strengthen PayZen's data asset and expand what the platform can own across the patient financial lifecycle.

Drive Workstreams End-to-End

Drive workstream delivery end-to-end. Set ambitious but feasible milestones, sequence work to deliver value early, and unblock others proactively.

Shape Direction Cross-Functionally

Shape the direction of your product surface with cross-functional partners, and adjust your approach through pivots without losing momentum.

Coach and Give Feedback

Coach others on compounding their impact, give actionable feedback across workstreams, and advocate for strong candidates at the hiring bar.

Build Leverage for the Team

Build tools and systems that create structural leverage for the team, multiplying your impact well beyond your own workstream.

Requirements

  8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.

  Expert craft and strong systems thinking across multiple systems or surfaces.

\n
• \n

  A track record of finding high-impact problems others miss and driving solutions end-to-end.

\n
• \n

  Experience setting ambitious but feasible milestones and sequencing work to deliver value early.

\n
• \n

  Hands-on proficiency in at least one of Java, Go, Python, or TypeScript; you write and review code daily.

• \n

  Experience building tools or shared systems that make a whole team faster.

\n
• \n

  Working knowledge of application security and compliance-regulated environments; HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or

  SOC 2 exposure preferred.

  A habit of coaching peers and giving actionable feedback.
