Interim Project Accountant (Tax)

Savant Recruitment
London, ENG, GB Full Time

Job Description

Interim Project Accountant (Tax) - London, 2 days per week + hybrid\n

We're partnering with a well-renowned international organisation to recruit an Interim Project Accountant for a 3-month fixed-term contract.

\n

This is a newly established project role supporting a period of significant international expansion. As the organisation enters new markets, the project will focus on establishing the processes, controls, guidance, and operational frameworks needed to ensure that sales and operations teams understand and manage their tax and legal obligations effectively.

\n

This is not a pure tax advisory role. The organisation already works with established external specialists for international tax and VAT. The successful candidate will act as the bridge between that technical advice and the organisation's day-to-day operations - interpreting recommendations and turning them into practical, sustainable processes and documentation.

\n

The role would suit a qualified accountant from a Big Four or Top 10 environment who has subsequently gained exposure to international tax and VAT, and has strong experience in project delivery, transformation, change, or process improvement.

The Role\n

You'll take ownership of a newly established tax project, working across finance, sales and operational teams to develop a consistent and practical framework for managing international tax requirements.

\n

Key responsibilities will include:

\n
    \n
  • Developing and implementing robust processes and procedures to support the organisation's activities across international markets.
  • \n
  • Creating clear operational manuals and country-specific frameworks setting out relevant tax and compliance obligations.
  • \n
  • Translating technical recommendations from external tax advisers into practical processes, controls and guidance for internal teams.
  • \n
  • Working closely with sales and operational stakeholders to ensure they understand the parameters within which they can operate in new markets.
  • \n
  • Supporting the implementation of appropriate international tax and VAT processes and controls.
  • \n
  • Reviewing existing ways of working and identifying opportunities to improve consistency, governance and risk management.
  • \n
  • Coordinating with external advisers and internal stakeholders to ensure technical advice is effectively embedded within the organisation.
  • \n
  • Developing clear documentation, guidance and reporting frameworks to support ongoing compliance.
  • \n
  • Helping establish a sustainable operating model that can be maintained by the organisation once the project is complete.
  • \n
  • Driving the project through to tangible implementation and delivery within the three-month assignment.
  • \n
About You\n

We're looking for a qualified accountant with strong project and implementation skills, rather than a pure technical tax specialist.

\n

You'll ideally have:

\n
    \n
  • ACA/ICAEW qualification, with an audit background gained within a Big Four or Top 10 accountancy firm.
  • \n
  • Post-qualified exposure to international tax and VAT.
  • \n
  • Experience of working on transformation, change management, process improvement or project delivery assignments.
  • \n
  • The ability to take complex technical recommendations and translate them into clear, practical processes and guidance.
  • \n
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to take ownership and drive delivery.
  • \n
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly when working across finance, sales and operational teams.
  • \n
  • A commercially minded and pragmatic approach, with a focus on implementation rather than technical advisory.
  • \n
  • The confidence to work with external professional advisers and challenge, interpret and implement their recommendations.
  • \n
  • The ability to work independently and deliver tangible outcomes within a short-term project environment.
  • \n
\n

Experience of charity VAT would be a distinct advantage, while exposure to international charity VAT would be highly beneficial.
