Role: Engineering ManagerSalary: £80,000-£100,000 (+ discretionary annual bonus of up to 7.5%)Location: Hybrid - London 2 days per weekThe Opportunity:Our client, an innovative medical technology business operating within the global life sciences sector, is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join its growing technology team.This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of Engineers while remaining genuinely hands-on technically.This isn't a traditional Engineering Manager role where you'll step away from the technology. You'll continue designing and building web applications and RESTful APIs alongside the team, while also taking ownership of engineering standards, architecture, technical debt and continuous improvement.You'll work closely with the hiring manager on system architecture and technical direction, while leading the engineering team through Agile delivery and creating an environment where Engineers can develop, collaborate and perform at their best.This role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys the balance of people leadership and hands-on engineering , and who wants the opportunity to influence both the technical direction and culture of a growing engineering function.Key Responsibilities:Engineering Leadership & Team ManagementLead and line-manage a team of Engineers, providing regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching and career developmentSupport recruitment, onboarding and development of engineering talentBuild a collaborative, accountable and high-performing engineering cultureMentor Engineers and support their technical and professional growthHands-On DevelopmentRemain hands-on with the development of web applications and RESTful APIsDesign and build solutions alongside the engineering teamConduct code reviews and maintain high coding standardsLead by example when it comes to engineering best practices and qualityArchitecture & Technical DirectionWork closely with the VP Business Solutions on system architecture and technical directionContribute to architectural decisions and help shape the future technology landscapeDrive improvements across the codebase, tooling and engineering practicesTake ownership of technical debt and ensure it is systematically addressedAgile DeliveryKeep the team aligned to sprint goals and ensure commitments are deliveredRemove blockers quickly and support predictable sprint deliveryFacilitate and participate in Agile ceremoniesPromote transparency, collaboration and continuous improvement across the teamWhat We're Looking For:Essential ExperienceProven experience leading and line-managing software engineering teamsStrong hands-on development experience with C# and .NETStrong experience with JavaScript and modern front-end frameworks, ideally ReactHands-on experience building and deploying solutions within AzureExperience with serverless architectures, particularly Azure FunctionsWorking knowledge of microservices and event-driven architecturesExperience with Cosmos DB or similar NoSQL databasesStrong understanding of Git workflows, including branching, merging and pull requestsProven experience leading Agile teams and delivering consistently against sprint commitmentsExperience contributing to or owning system architecture decisionsAbility to balance people management with hands-on technical responsibilitiesDesirableExperience working with CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOpsKnowledge of Azure B2C and identity frameworksExperience with TDD, BDD and test automationExperience working within regulated environments such as medical devices, clinical trials or life sciencesDegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experienceIf you're an Engineering Manager who wants to remain hands-on while having the opportunity to shape architecture, improve engineering practices and build a high-performing team, we'd love to hear from you.Important Notice:We are expecting a high volume of applications for this role and while we do our best to respond to as many applicants as we can, it isn't always possible to get back to everyone.
